Are There Restrictions on Special Characters in Project, Proposal, or Change Order Prefixes?

The prefix fields for Project IDs, Proposal IDs, and Change Order IDs only support letters and special characters/symbols. Numeric values cannot be used as part of the prefix.

Administrators can configure prefixes from the Project & Proposal Numbering settings page for:

  • Project IDs
  • Proposal IDs
  • Change Order IDs

When a new record is created, the system automatically combines the configured prefix with the corresponding numeric sequence to generate the final ID.

Examples

  • P-141
  • PR-193
  • CO-131

Important Notes

  • The numeric portion of the ID is controlled separately through the Number field.
  • Prefixes help maintain consistent and standardized record identification across the organization.
  • Special characters, such as hyphens (-), can be included in prefixes.
  • Any changes to the prefix settings will apply only to newly generated IDs and will not affect existing records.
