# What happens if I rename a Service Call Reason that is already in use?

**Overview**
Service Call Reasons are used to categorize and track the purpose of service calls within the system. These reasons may already be linked to existing or historical service calls.

**What** **happens** **if** **you** **rename** **a** **Service** **Call** **Reason**?
If you rename a Service Call Reason that is already in use, the system will automatically update the label everywhere it is referenced.
This means:
* The **new name will replace the old name** in all service call records where that reason is used.
* Historical service calls will continue to show the **updated (renamed) Service Call Reason**, not the original name.
* There is no data loss or change in the underlying records—only the display name is updated.

**Example**
* Original Service Call Reason: *“Installation Issue”*
* Renamed to: *“Setup Issue”*
After renaming:
* All existing service calls that previously showed *“Installation Issue”* will now display *“Setup Issue”*.

**Key** **Takeaway**
Renaming a Service Call Reason does not create a new entry or duplicate. It simply updates the existing label across all associated service calls.
